Rosemary spent her
childhood in the shadow of Mt.
Lassen Volcanic National
Park, surrounded by rocks from the center of the Earth that
sprang forth when Mt. Tehama erupted. She grew up on what was
once Native American land, There was an Indian ritual and burial site on the 155
acres. Every moment of her childhood was spent collecting rocks, especially the
volcano’s obsidian, and some very amazing arrow heads. Rocks called to her,
they twinkled, and they asked her to pick them up, and she did.
A favorite activity of
8-year-old Rosemary and her friend was to have Rosemary trace her finger around
the edges of her friend, careful not to touch her. Rosemary watched the light
that connected her finger to her friend while her closed eyed friend accurately
said where she was pointing at any given moment. |
